Second Pipe Burst Releases Asbestos

Boston - Fire department officials have confirmed that asbestos was released from a steam pipe explosion in front of the Edward W. Brooke Courthouse.

The explosion was the second within the last month and scattered dirt and debris along a 50-foot diameter area. The tests show that asbestos used to line the pipe was not released into the air but was found among the debris.

No injuries were reported but the explosion closed a portion of the street and led to the evacuation of a nearby residence.
