Asbestos Discovery Leads to Dockyard Delays
Townsville, Queensland – Work has been temporarily halted after dockyard employees discovered large amounts of asbestos while unloading a Panamanian cargo ship.
According to the International Transport Workers Federation, work continued after asbestos was initially discovered but when even more was found to be on board, all activity was halted because of the risk of asbestos exposure.
The condition and amount of the asbestos has not been released
but the ITF is asking that the ship undergo a full inspection before
work resumes.
